A well written and entertaining translation.
Learned about this book from "The Rest is History" podcast and found it to be a fine, entertaining, easily digestable translation of Seutonius' famous book.

Fluent in modern English
Impressive translation. No background with any previous translation or the Latin original but it deals well with extremely long, multi clause sentences. There are also extensive, explanatory end notes. The reader does need to remember that this is not modern history but rather what Suetonius wrote over 18 centuries ago.

Suetonius is a genial writer and historian, and the trnaslation of Holland gives the book an air of freshness that makes it very readable, above all if you are not a professional scholar and just want to share the conception of power in its utmost possibility.

If you thought they had the odd foible; think again. They were actually insane but people adored some of them. Historically we read of only a small part of the insanity. It is quite gripping but best to dip into it not read cover to cover.

The reviews of this book all refer to Tom Holland but this paperback is nothing to do with Tom Holland. It is a 1913 translation. The review of the book are nothing to do with Tom Holland and it is very misleading to put them as reviews of this translation.
