Fantastic for learning financial responsibility!
I bought this for my son when he was 8 years old and I am still crazy about it. The concept is brilliant — it was a fantastic tool for him to learn how to manage his money. INVEST: When I gave the piggy bank to my son, I told him 10% of all money he received was to be set aside to invest and he wouldn’t be able to touch it until he was 18 (long-term savings). Once enough money accrued, I used it to buy a few shares of stock for him and have added to that over the years. He’s been able to see the advantage of making his money work for him. CHARITY: When I was growing up, my father wanted my siblings & me to understand our responsibility to share what we had with those who weren’t as privileged as us, so he had us give 10% of our allowance. That was used to sponsor a child in a developing country through World Vision. It was a valuable lesson that we have carried with us into our adult years. I wanted my son to learn the same. I suggested 10% to him, but told him the amount was really up to him. To my surprise and great pride, he decided to allocate 20% to charity. SAVE: This was for big ticket items like when he was in high school and wanted to upgrade to a more powerful computer for gaming. We paid half and he used his savings to pay the other half — it was no small amount, either. I think he allocated 30% to this category. SPEND: The remaining 40% was for immediate things he wanted to buy, but he was such a saver, that he hardly touched it. Once he was in high school, he no longer used the piggy bank. He used envelopes, but he kept the same categories and same allocations of his money. It’s now been 14 years and the piggy bank is still in excellent condition. I like that it’s transparent enough to see your money accrue in each section. It’s sturdy and the plugs fit snugly, yet aren’t hard to remove. The only drawback is that I wish the openings were a little larger to make it easier to remove bills. You have to fold them into 1/4 the size to get them in and out. That’s no problem unless the bills get pushed to the top of the piggy bank. Then it’s a little hard to reach them. But there really isn’t room to make them any bigger, given that there are four openings at the bottom, and it’s a trivial matter compared to all the benefits of it. I have told many people about this piggy bank, but for many years, it was not available. I was just telling someone about it last night and am thrilled to see that it’s now available again! Sadly, our schools in the US do not teach basic life skills like financial management, so our young people go out into the world without knowing how to budget, live debt-free & within their means, share generously with those who are not as privileged as they are, or set aside money for retirement. I love that this piggy bank teaches children from a young age to develop those critical life skills. Thank you, thank you to the mom who invented it. I wish every kid could have one! (This review was unsolicited. I received no compensation for it.)

Cute & Educational
We bought these for my three grandsons. The pigs are durable, adorable and a great educational item regarding the 4 different ways to use money. We provided the pigs, along with some money. Then let each grandson decide which slot/s they wanted their money to go. SAVED, SPEND, DONATE, or INVEST

Cute pig to teach kids about money management
Great piggy bank to teach kids about where their money can go. The pig has 4 slots for Save, Spend, Donate, and Invest, and you can get the money out by opening the bottom of each leg (one leg for each section). So far it has stood up to being dropped on the wood floor a few times and hasn't broken.

Clever, but over-priced
This is smaller than I expected, but measures exactly as described. A little bit on the gimmacky side, although I understand the theory employed. The biggest lesson my kid got was how easy it is to buy an over-priced product and to consider alternatives next time based on "SAVE". This is easily twice the price of other piggy banks of the same size. The subtleties of the "science" of saving, with sections labeled "donate" and "invest" are lost when you look at the price tag and see that SPEND, SPEND, SPEND is the real message here. The only reason we purchased this, was because it was on someone's gift list.

How Much do Your Kids Know about Money?
Money Savvy Pig offers a fun and effective way to teach kids about money and its many important uses. Parents devote very little time to the concept of financial management, in spite of its critical nature, often because they are not sure how best to approach the subject. Money Savvy Pig makes it easy to introduce youngsters to these important concepts. How does Money Savvy Pig work as an educational device? The answer is simple. By including four different chambers with different labels- one for spend, one for save, one for donate, and one for invest- kids gain a sense of financial management and money allocation. They learn that money has uses that go far beyond ordinary spending. Kids under the age of seven are not ready to learn the specifics of these different concepts, but early exposure is a good idea and the Money Savvy Bank Pig certainly succeeds in this respect. The Money Savvy Bank is made from plastic and mine has held up fine thus far. Others have pointed out that this bank can break if dropped on a hard surface. Considering its lightweight design, it isn't difficult to imagine the bank breaking apart if mishandled, which is why parents need to exercise caution and make sure their kids handle the bank with extra care when moving from one place to the next. I like that this bank separates money into four different sections and I like that it gets kids thinking about money and its uses. One limitation, however, is that this bank isn't very good for storing paper money. The reason is because the pieces of paper are difficult to remove. The openings on the bottom of the bank are small- too small to stick your hand inside the bank to remove paper. Place a folded dollar bill inside this bank and it will take some shaking and maneuvering to remove it from the bottom. Thus, this bank should be avoided for storing paper currency. It is intended for use with coins. Financial literacy is important and kids need to learn about money at the youngest age possible. The Money Savvy Pig is a very good piggy bank for youngsters and its benefits go far beyond the encouragement of savings. It encourages kids to ask questions and think about money in different ways, making it a great choice for a child's early financial education.

Coins are heavy!
Loved this product, got one for each of my boys and it was a great teaching tool. Comes with a few stickers to help understand what each of these categories is for and the importance of it. After a few months though they started getting really heavy and eventually just setting them down too hard was enough to crack the plastic. I would totally buy this again and if there was a way to get one in some kind of metal!
