Works good on my 2001 4.0L explorer
One thing I ran into on the explorer 4.0 is that there's a couple different manifolds. Mine is a 2001 XLT 4.0 built on 9/2001. Everything seemed to line up perfectly. I had to fight the three bolts to get my old one off. One big problem. I did have that I kind of set myself up for. I put the OEM thermostat in. Trust me, spend the extra 15 bucks and get a good quality thermostat. I also tried to put an OEM o-ring on the thermostat. THIS UNIT USES A BIGGER O-RING than the OEM thermostat one. The OEM one will just leak on you. Asked me how I know. So I put the o-ring it came with back in and it works. Also keep in mind to smaller hoses that connect to this but most likely have to be replaced as well. In my case I also had to split the top half of the manifold so you'll need gaskets for the manifold. You can see in the pictures I have the long tube runner manifold style. I've seen the other 4.0 with the skinnier manifold. Sometimes you can slip this thing right out. Unfortunately mine I could not. And I had to take off my top half of the manifold. I was left in a pinch because I did not have the lower hose and my old one was about to blow out. I didn't realize how bad it was till after I got it off. Do not buy the POS dorman replacement hose only lasts about 6 months from all the reviews. The gates one wasn't really for this. It was a 16th smaller id but the outer diameter was larger. It fits extremely close, maybe just a credit cards distance away from that bolt. It's been working for the last 2 weeks in my car. When I find that number I kept it somewhere. The guy at O'Reilly's just looked up for similar items on his computer and when I saw a gates one that was about the right shape asked for that . I just can't find it at the moment. I'll put it up on this review when I do. That way if you're in a pinch like me you're able to get to around. Lastly, I was only able to find one YouTube video on how to take my style manifold apart. It's from like 13 years ago and it wasn't the best quality but it got me through. The only last issue I had was I had to split the lower manifold because those gaskets were leaking on my car. When I split it I realized somehow the insulation on the knock sensor went bad so I had to replace that too. I also found the PCV valve hose to be rotten so keep an eye out for that on yours. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you! It's May 31 2025. I use this car as my daily driver and it's still holding up good.

2003 Ranger back up with good metal part
Did the trick. 2003 Ranger. Way better than stock plastic parts. For those wondering it does have a thermostat installed. I couldn't find that info anywhere so I have a shiny spare thermostat in the box. Also, you don't have to take off the intake to replace. Pull the alternator, alternator bracket and belt tensioner and there's room to get the housing out.

Does Wonder Never Ceased to Amaze Me
This particular item in the past and now in the present can be purchased in plastic. The housing is made of plastic that's made up of two parts, the upper and lower that's connected together with a seal at the center of upper and the lower housing. I've replaced this housing in my Ford Explorer three times because the seal between the upper and lower part of this item seems to be weak and cannot handle the pressure during the cooling operation, in turn it leaks at the seal every time, I replaced it. Always wondered why this particular housing part was not manufactured in a solid metal or aluminum part. Well does wonder never ceased they manufactured this housing in aluminum. This housing item I inspected does not seem to be solid but comes in two parts, upper and lower with a seal in the center. I could be wrong, but I'm almost sure I'm right. Hopefully this housing part does not leak at the center seal if it has one. I'll let you know after I replace the housing.

Great product
Since this is metal, it helps dissipate the heat. This item is much better than the original plastic one that is easy to deform. Installed fairly easy, great fit. Purchased for a 2011 Dodge Caliber.

Perfect fit and arrived in a flash!
I own a dodge avenger 2.4l and the thermostat made of plastic blew out on it. I then immediately tried finding a replacement and this showed up in my search with next day shipping. Not only is it a perfect fit it has been installed for a few months now and hasn't leaked once. It's also easy to install only requiring three bolts to be removed and replaced. It also comes with all the gaskets required as well as new thermostats.

Leaking from install day one
Purchased and installed, chased leaks from the bottom of the motor up to the bottom of this awesome part I replaced less than a thousand miles (chasing down leaks ever since) until I finally took it all down to this housing again.. only to find the top thermostat housing leaking this time. one leak after another (or a slow realization of the original leaking area. either way, this part is garbage and not fun tearing down a third time only to give up and order a competing part with hopes for better luck since they have better reviews - no reports of leakage like this one. I would appreciate a full refund and will send this back so you can fix your part or learn from it. pictures available on request. this came as one piece preassembled from the factory and whatever was assembled there already shows signs of leaking. again, this is a car that's basically been out of commission and relying on my truck WAY more because I don't have my mileage car non-leaking. horrible part.
