Buy Bean-to-Bar Chocolate: America’s Craft Chocolate Revolution: The Origins, the Makers, and the Mind-Blowing Flavors on desertcart.com ✓ FREE SHIPPING on qualified orders Review: What a fun read about chocolate! - This book is a FUN read, incredibly gorgeous to look at from cover to cover, and packed with a ton of information about chocolate! Where chocolate comes from, how it is made, luscious recipes, stories about growers and makers, what to look for on the labels on bars, and a lot more! I was particularly excited by the section of the book about pairing chocolate with other foods. This is something that I know is going to be an ongoing source of fun for my family, especially the ideas about how to pair chocolate with cheese or fruit or bread. There are quite a few recipes with many of them labelled as easy. I’m not adventurous in the kitchen but after reading them I’m inspired enough that I have to try making some of the simpler ones. The Truffle Torte recipe looks easy and I can tell it is going to be fantastic! I loved reading the stories about some of the best bean-to-bar makers. Reading about these distinctive artists and what drives them is a true pleasure. Threaded throughout the book is discussion of the treatment of the people who grow the beans that are used to make the chocolate we eat. I like the fact that the author highlights the growers as well as the makers and that she writes about how to ensure that the chocolate you buy is not just incredibly delicious but that the beans are sourced in an ethical way. I’ve already given this book as a gift to two different chocolate loving friends and I suspect I’ll be gifting it to more relatives and friends later this year. Review: Great introduction to cacao harvesting and the world of artisan chocolatiers. - This is a great introduction to how cacao is grown, harvested and turned into artisan chocolate. It's also a great overview of many artisan chocolatiers. I'm going to buy another copy to give as a gift.

Jam packed with craft chocolate knowledge and a lot of fun to read!
This book is a treasure trove of chocolate knowledge and a lot of fun to read. If you aren’t already a craft chocolate lover, it will quickly turn you into one! It also includes a collection of recipes written by some of the best chocolatiers, pastry chefs, and bean-to-bar chocolate makers in the country. These alone would make the book a great purchase. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves chocolate or is just generally interested in good food and experiencing the best of it. If only all learning could be this much fun!

Informative, compelling format, very approachable
The book is an comprehensive and information-rich (yet engaging & approachable) intro to the world of craft, bean-to-bar chocolate: the farming, harvesting, and fermentation process; the production; the prominent craft producers; the flavor profiles and pairings; and recipes that highlight craft chocolate flavors. It weaves together stories, information, and recipes in a hard-to-stop reading format.

For the love of chocolate...
Everything you ever wanted to know about chocolate can be right at your fingertips. If you’re expecting a lot of recipes, though, you might be disappointed. Bean to Bar covers the origins, history and makers of chocolate around the world. It is full of fascinating facts and gorgeous photos. If you’re looking for in depth history or information about the world of chocolate making, this is the book for you!! There’s great information on tempering chocolate and techniques for making bon bons, etc. When it comes to recipes, this book was somewhat lacking for me. They do span from easy to advanced, but there’s only around 22 recipes in the book, and several of those are for various types of drinking chocolate. The Truffle Torte reminds me of a Torta Caprese, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Definitely give the Triple Chocolate Chunk Cookies a try as well!! Overall, if you’re looking for great chocolate recipes, I don’t know if this book will be enough for you. If you are a chocoholic looking for all things chocolate, you’ll probably love it!! I received a copy of this book from Storey Publishing for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

An excellent look into the bean to bar chocolate scene
Megan does a comprehensive job sharing the bean to bar chocolate making scene, making it both entertaining and accessible to the public. The information is both accurate (I make chocolate myself, so I would know) and interesting. Beyond the book, I would recommend following Megan (Chocolate Noise) on Facebook. She continually 'drops knowledge' there, so you never quit learning/experiencing the craft chocolate scene. So buy a book, a bar, and enjoy.

The book I wish had existed 3 years ago
Author Megan Giller gives food lovers a crash course on American bean-to-bar chocolate in this beautifully illustrated, super accessible book I wish had existed when I started researching the topic two years ago. In Bean-to-Bar, you'll learn how chocolate is made, where it's coming from, how to taste it, and much more. Peppered with maker profiles and recipes, this book compiles everything you need to know about the craft chocolate movement in the US right now.

I love this book! I bought it as a gift but ended up reading it before giving it as a present. The drawings, and the style in general, are beautiful. There is a nice mix between basic information about chocolate and more specific facts that could be really interesting if someone already has a good knowledge on the topic. The recipes are nice but what a I liked the most was the section with the chocolate and beverages pairings: really useful (especially around Christmas)!
