Is this 18" from the center of each opening to the other? Or 18" from the very end of the "box" to the other end of the "box"? I need to reach 17" from the exact center of each opening.

If you look at the layout of the pipe, it should be 18-20" Center to Center and 24" overall. This is per site: partselect.com and type in the model number. The grid is 1" squares.

Do you just cut this in half with tin snips and slide part of it back over itself and then tape it?

It slides to adjust to whatever length you need it... The excess length can be cut off but I just left it on mine... The holes will actually line up if slid all the way short.... Hope that makes sense and helps...

Should use aluminum venting tape if you're using a gas dryer to seal any cracks.

can u pull it apart and reverse one side so both holes are on the same side or is it truly periscople style only?

No, it can't be reversed as others here have said, at least not without a lot of cutting and taping which sort of defeats the purpose. I had to return it and buy the 18-27 inch version instead.
