I was very happy with my WS699. It was a wonderful smooth and wet writer. I have used it exclusively for about half a year. Love ended suddenly when my hand was covered in ink. Upon closer inspection I have noticed a crack on the top of the barrel, right under the piston cap, that was leaking ink. Given that the pen was only used as a desk pen and was more or less protected from daily wear and tear, this was very surprising. I guess you can't have a Pilot 823 for $30. UPDATE : a replacement pen arrived with a crack in exactly the same place.

This pen is amazing, and not just because of its price point. Despite reading other glowing reviews, I was hopeful but also doubtful that it would be as good as others have indicated. But kudos to those reviewers....the pen was as good as indicated! I am impressed not only by the feel and build, but also the nib. No exaggeration to say that it writes out of the box as good or better as my pricier (for me) pens. And it beats the pants off any other similarly priced pens. Delightful! (And apologies, other reviewers for not quite believing it could be good as you indicate.) I considered swapping in a Pilot 742 nib, but frankly I enjoy writing with the nib it comes with too much to do that!

This pen is an excellent performer. I flushed it with water, emptied it and inked it with Iroshizuku Tsukushi. It started very quickly and has been writing well ever since with no skipping. The nib is extremely smooth and, best of all, this is a large pen that is very comfortable in my extra-large hands. The vacuum filling system worked splendidly right out of the box. A few months back, I bought a Pilot Custom 823, of which this is a rather blatant copy. The 823 wrote so smoothly, but the filling system was faulty and I had to return it. An irony that this cheap clone is working better for me at a tenth of the cost. The fine nib is a little finer than a Western fine, but not as fine as a Japanese one, it's more like a Japanese medium-fine. If this got lost or damaged, I would replace it with the same.

Good writer but not the fine point I ordered. Fills easy and doesn't leak. 5 stars if it was a fine point.

This pen is a little more expensive than the typical Chinese pens on Amazon, but the quality is noticeably better. Beautifully balanced when filled, with an excellent Fine nib and reliable ink flow. It is a vac filler with an uncanny resemblance to a very well regarded Japanese pen that costs 10 times as much. The body and filling mechanism are so similar that you wonder if the same tooling was used. The original has a fantastic gold nib, but the Wing Sung steel nib is nice as well. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the filling mechanism. The instructions are in Chinese but there are tutorials available online. Once the pen is full, there is an extra step to seal the ink inside the pen or allow it to flow to the nib. Not hard at all once you get the hang of it.
