Love this product
We love this automatic chicken door! We have had it for over two years and have had zero issues. Our chickens are able to leave the coop as soon as the sun rises as well as enter the coop at dusk before it closes with no issues. It was also very easy to install and fit our existing coop door with no issues. It’s all in all a great purchase for the security of your chickens as well as the convenience of no longer have to let them out every morning and closing them back up at night.

3 year update
I don’t take the time to write reviews but will review/update now for this battery powered chicken coop door. Outstanding. Simply great. It’s worked steadily for 3 years of summer heat and winter bitter cold with temps this winter dipping 20 below zero. I wasn’t sure about spending the higher cost but let me assure you it’s been worth every penny. I did screw a board above it to shed off rain/freezing rain. The only thing I’ve done for maintenance is change the batteries just as winter begins and occasionally brush off any debris the hens have kicked into the door path. I’m so happy with it that I’ve bought one for my son and now that I’m expanding my flock with a second coop, I’m getting yet another one. I’ve never used the app. No need to. It works perfectly closing at dusk and opening at dawn throughout all 4 seasons. I don’t have to set any timers to keep readjusting for long summer days and short winter ones. Set it one time initially for dawn and dusk and I haven’t touched it again to program in 3 years. Worth every penny. I’d share a pic but it’s the same as it was in the Amazon listing. No fading, no rust, and doing its job.

Stopped working after 6 months
Door will not accept programming, it worked completely fine until about a month ago (not even a year old) I notice the chickens were not out, when I went down to check the door had not opened. I manually opened it and thought it was odd. I checked the battery and it was 86% so I waited until that evening and then the next morning as well and both times I had to manually opened it. I tried to reprogram the door and it would not give me the confirmation that it had worked I waited until that evening and it still had not worked. I then contacted the manufacturer hoping they would be able to help me and they were not helpful and accusatory as I was performing the task wrong and they needed a video of my attempts. Well as I need the phone to program it and I only have 1 phone I said I would not be able to do that. They said we could not move further in the process again saying they needed to verify that the stops were being done. I have recommended Run-Chicken and have even purchased one as a gift for a friend, after the customer I feel I am being treated rather poorly. They only communicate via email once per day and not on the weekends. So after 7 days I have just ordered from a different company. I am very disappointed with my experience with Run-Chicken.

Had it for a year - works great!
I've been using this door for over a year on my chicken run that is permanently attached to the coop, and I love it! I still go out at dusk and close it manually once all the girls are in, but I love that I don't have to go out in the morning (and the girls love it too, because usually I'm late). I also like that I can leave for the weekend and I don't have to have someone come open/close while I'm gone. Pros: 1. Works as advertised! 2. I put fresh batteries in once per year in the fall (as the instructions say) and my batteries have always lasted. For reference, I live in Oregon at elevation so we get relatively cold & snowy winters. 3. Customer support is FANTASTIC! Anytime I have a question, they respond quickly (usually within a day) and are always friendly and helpful. I can't think of any "cons", but there are things you should be aware of: 1. The manual override button on the outside CAN be activated by raccoons. It happened to me and it was horrific! I solved this by mounting the door on the inside of the run, rather than the outside. Mine is an open-air run with a roof, so it stays light enough that the door doesn't close too soon. I would not feel comfortable mounting this on the outside of a coop/run unless I came up with a way to protect the button. 2. If you get melting days and freezing nights in the winter and the door is exposed to the elements, it will freeze up and not open in the morning. When my door was mounted on the outside of the run, I solved this by using an old window to create a shed roof (use a window rather than a solid material so the light sensor doesn't get affected). That worked great! All in all, a great product with great customer support that has simplified my chicken life. If anything happens to this one, I will definitely buy another.

Works great, but has some inconveniences
I’ve been using this automated chicken door for a while now and overall, it’s been great - reliable, consistent, and I haven’t had any issues with it operating as expected. Mine does not burn through batteries like some say. I just make sure to change them every few months. My only complaints (and the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5) is that changing the batteries requires disassembling part of the unit, which is a bit inconvenient. Second, while it connects to an app, you can’t manage or monitor the door remotely. You have to be standing right in front of the door and use their scanner through the app to adjust any settings. There’s also no way to check from your phone whether the door actually open/shut on time, which would be a helpful feature (especially if you get home late or traveling-and want to make sure it’s working). If they improved these designs, it would be a perfect product. Still highly recommend it for coop security!

Reliable
Great product. We have been using this for about 2 years on the chicken coop we built and have yet to change the batteries. It starts blinking within 20 minutes of when it is going to open or close. It goes based on sunrise and sunset. Even in negative degree temperatures last winter we only had one single day we had to manually open it because it frozen. Very pleased with this door.

Working perfectly so far!
May 2022 Update: After using this door for almost a year now, we still love it! The only issue we've had is in the winter when it would rain and then get really cold soon thereafter, the door to be a bit frozen and could not open. I like that the door would try to open, then stop. It reassures me that it won't break so easily! Our idea going forward for this winter is to create a bit more of an overhang to keep more moisture away from the door. All we had to do was just open our coop's side door to let the crew out. Regardless, we love this door and it makes life so much easier for us! Loving this door! Installed easily. We watched the installation video before attempting. We had a small saw that we could use to cut out the hole and drills/screwdriver, etc. So I would recommend watching the install video before buying to make sure you have the tools you need to install. It works great and we've had zero issues so far with opening and closing via the factory default settings. The chickens are happy and we are too! It has rained several times, heavy rains, no weather related issues noted. The price is a bit high but it's lower than most automatic doors. At first I chose this door due to that fact, however, I have found that I prefer the way this door looks along with the mechanism for opening and closing as compared to the other automatic doors. I make sure to keep an eye on the door by checking for any debris in the track. The bottom of the door has a very tiny gap for debris to fall through on it's own, so I haven't had anything get stuck but I just want to maintain it well so it lasts as long as possible.

Would not recommend this door
I paid $200 for this door in April 2022 and it worked great until January 2025. Then it would no longer open in the morning and sometimes would not close at night. Too expensive to only last less than 3 years. It only has a one year warranty but I contacted the company anyway to see what the issue might be and if they could resolve the problem. From January to March of 2025 I sent videos and did everything the customer support team suggested but nothing worked permanently- it might work a few days then it wouldn’t work again. Never did they offer any type of partial reimbursement or replacement (like I said it was no longer under warranty) or even a discount if I ordered a new one. Finally I got tired of doing the same suggestions over and over and having to go out every morning and press the button to open the door, so I bought a door from a different company. Even if the new one only last a year or two it was only $50 so I could buy 4 for what the ChickenRun door cost. So far the other brand works well. I would not recommend buying the Chicken run door.

Ottimo, pratico e funzionale

Essential to every chicken coop
An essential to every chicken owner. Very easy to install and set up. It opens and closes according to sunrise/sunset. The company, run-chicken have been amazing- even after several months they were on hand 24/7 to assist with minor technical issues which were resolved very quickly. Highly commended customer service and great product. A must buy.
