Can this filter be used for a turtles 40 gallon tank?

The filter canister, Pentek 150237 #10, that this question is relating to, yes. The filter elements available must be gauged for your needs. The elements typically last 6+ months on a 200 gallon per week flow. I think that it would serve you well on a closed loop system; from tank to pump to tank. It should last quite awhile. Choosing the right porosity size filter would be another question.
